Jay and Karen
Wedding at Mamore Cottages, Donegal, Ireland
Jay and Karen’s wedding in Ireland felt like a home from home for me. The North West corner of Donegal is like Cornwall, only more rugged, wild and beautiful (if that is possible!).
Jay is a wedding photographer himself. Therefore, he had many ideas about the kind of shots he wanted over the wedding weekend. You could shoot at an amazing location everyday for a year in this locality. Even then, you still would not cover them all! Hence, we made a plan to encompass just a few of them.
Unfortunately the weather did not comply over the weekend. However, Jay and Karen are a happy-go-lucky couple and used to the inclement conditions in their native land. Consequently, We we found ourselves at one of their favourite beaches in the rain and wind! The images committed to my 35mm and Medium Format film cameras capture the wild beauty of Donegal. Jay and Karen were a true joy to work with, running around like children as if it were their first time at the beach.
The venue of Mamore Cottages has a truly rustic vibe about it, with stone walls and thatched roofs aplenty. A bigger, barn-like stable building served as the reception room and was decked out accordingly.
You could almost feel the centuries of local farmers that had obviously used the place for its original purpose. A live band (at points populated by some of Jay’s family!) got the party going and the Guiness flowed.
Bespoke Wedding Skate Ramp
Subsequently, the rain eased off the day after the wedding. This allowed for Jay and Karen to use the bespoke wedding skate ramp built specially outside the stable! This is definitely the first time I have shot a wedding skate ramp! Thanks to Jay, Karen and their families for such good craic all day long!
