Sam and Steve

I photographed Sam and Steve’s wedding at Trenython Manor, resplendent on the south coast of Cornwall. Trenython Manor was built in 1872 and is surrounded by 24 acres of designer gardens and ancient woodland. When I was asked to photograph the rooms and lodges there, I was amazed at how the orginal features have been restored. For instance, if you’re in the market for sweeping staircases, decorative ceilings and oak panelling, you’ve come to the right place. Moreover, they’ve even retained the original butler*! Furthermore, Trenython Manor Weddings can be conducted on site from start to finish. Indeed, I think the resort’s timelessly elegant character is apparent right down to it’s licensed chapel.

Emergency Tie

It seems that the staff at a Trenython Manor Wedding are ready for anything. Due to a small but significant mishap early on in the day, I found myself at the hotel reception. The best man had forgotten his tie! Therefore, I asked if the hotel had such a thing as an emergency tie. I was told that they had and would be delighted to lend it to the best man. The tie in question turned out not to be the exact same shade of lilac as the absent original. Not ideal, but as I explained to the hapless gent on my return: beggars can’t be choosers. The emergency tie was just another string to the bow of the Trenython Manor Wedding staff. After that, suitably adorned, Steve and his best man were ready for pre-wedding portraits.

Meanwhile, Sam’s wedding preparations were contiuing with less hitches. I hung her dress in the stunning bay windows of the bridal suite which reaps beautiful light from across the St Austell bay. When Sam was ready, I shot her in her dress in the same spot using my Hasselbald camera and Black and White then Colour film. A Trenython Manor Wedding is special to say the least!

Safely suited and booted (and emergency tied!), Steve and his best man waited in the chapel. My second shooter Kirsty followed Sam down the grand staircase as she prepared to make her entry. The assembled congregation held their collective breath. On cue, the music began. Sam’s mum and daughter entered followed by Sam herself. I think you can safely say everyone was stunned at how amazing she looked!

Ancient Woodland

Before any wedding, I like to scout locations for portraits. Therefore, when I whispered in Sam’s ear that it might be time for couple portraits, I knew exactly where to take her. Most importantly, I want any couple that I photograph to feel at their ease and have fun! In addition, a pre-wedding shoot with all couples is part of my packages. This means I am more a friend than a stranger on the wedding day. Myself and Kirsty (my trusty and beautiful other half and second shooter) had met up with Sam and Steve for their pre-wedding shoot earlier in the year. Consequently, when it came to shooting portraits in the ancient woodland surrounding Trenython Manor, we had a good rapport going.
