CARBIS BAY HOTEL, SAINT IVES
Time to look back at an oldie but a goodie. In fact, it’s one of my favourite weddings to date. Lucy and Jack’s wedding took place in sunny September 2022 at the beautiful Carbis Bay Hotel. It was a glorious day with lots of sunshine, which made for fantastic photos.
Both sides of the family headed down to Cornwall from Birmingham, so there was a real holiday vibe amongst the guests, and I doubt that Carbis beach has ever witnessed so many ‘Brummies” on its sands before!
To start the day, I headed to one of Carbis Bay Hotel’s luxury villas to take photos of the bride and her bridesmaids all getting ready. Based directly on the beach, they made use of the beach access by spending time between hair and makeup (by Ljp Hair and Makeup), drawing hearts in the sand, and the initials L&J.
As the Groom and Groomsmen arrived, alongside the wedding guests, we took a lot of photos on the beach, what with it being such a sunny day, snapping friends and family catching up before the ceremony.
The ceremony was held in glorious sunshine on the decking outside the Carbis Bay Wedding Hut, and later, inside the hut itself, the wedding breakfast took place. Each table had an alcoholic theme to it, with names such as the “Möet Table”, “Kracken Rum Table” and the “Aperol Table” for example. The colour scheme for the day was stunning, full of yellows and oranges, a real blaze of colour. The flowers for the day were provided by Wedding Flowers in Cornwall and looked incredible.
The Celebrant for the ceremony was Sabine Smith from Perfect Day Ceremonies, and since the couple had taken their legal vows a few days before, this service was super relaxed which matched the holiday vibe of the whole day. Lucy and her father arrived in style, on a golf buggy no less, and she looked stunning in her dress by Wedding Belles, holding a bouquet of orange and yellow flowers which matched her tiara perfectly.
The Bridesmaids all wore navy coloured dresses and the Groomsmen all matched in their smart navy Peter Posh suits which showed off all the colourful flowers in contrast. After the ceremony, we rounded up the wedding party for a confetti tunnel photoshoot on the beach before whisking the couple away for some shots alone further up the beach on the rocks.
It was now time to return to the Wedding Hut for the speeches and meal. As per tradition, the father of the bride, Jack the groom and his best man all did speeches, but it was awesome to see Lucy stand up and do one herself too! Once everyone had enjoyed tucking into the food and the sun had started to set, painting the sky with colours that matched Lucy’s bouquet, I took the couple outside once again and shot some photos with medium format and 35mm film. Later, after the sun had dipped even more in the sky, we captured some fantastic silhouette shots too.
During sunset itself, I rallied Jack and his groomsmen to get some shots of them throwing him into the air, which usually ends with hilarious images capturing the moment. They decided to do the same with Lucy later on, which she was well up for and turned out to be really amusing for them and any onlookers!
The sunset marked the start of the evening and the start of the music. Jack and Lucy had chosen Mojo Band from Fix The Music in London. The intrepid couple then cut the cake by Jennas Signature Bakes and did their first dance, and were later joined by all their loved ones on the dance floor. Mojo Band really got the party going. So much so, the lead singer took to the dance floor to throw some shapes and ended up on the floor in a starfish position! Looking back over these photos, the energy made for such fantastic photos, it was so much fun to capture!
Jack, being a DJ back in Birmingham, brought his own decks to the evening and spun some tunes for everyone to enjoy after the band had finished. It felt like it was a festival.
Thank you so much for having me shoot your special day Lucy and Jack, it was a pleasure! Here’s to everyone involved!
