ABOVE THE BAY, FALMOUTH
Alice and Matt were married on Tuesday, 12th August 2025 at Above The Bay in Falmouth, and it turned out to be one of those proper summer scorchers where the sun just didn’t let up all day.
Alice got ready in the bridal suite at the venue, while Matt and the lads were just down the road at their home in Falmouth. When I arrived, the light pouring into the function room was unreal, so I made the most of it and hung the wedding dress by Monsoon and the bridesmaids’ dresses up in front of the big windows. With the sunlight streaming through behind them, they looked incredible, the shots really showed them off.

The room itself was already set up for the wedding breakfast, and Alice and Matt had clearly put loads of time into the details. Each table had centrepieces filled with sand and shells collected from their favourite beaches, which doubled up as place names and little favours for guests to take home. A really personal touch that suited the coastal setting perfectly.
While Kirsty stayed with the girls, photographing makeup by Emilys Beauty Studio, matching PJs and plenty of laughter (and champagne for most of them), I nipped off to see Matt and the boys getting ready into their Moss Bros suits. Alice was keeping off the champagne for a very good reason, as they were planning to announce later in the day that she was pregnant, with a gender reveal worked into the speeches.

With the weather being so good, the ceremony took place right at the top of the golf course, overlooking Falmouth Bay. We all hopped into golf buggies to get up there, which is always a fun way to start things. The views over the water were stunning with bright blue skies, blazing sunshine and barely a cloud in sight. Alice and Matt’s dog had a very important role as dog of honour and ring bearer, and I have to say, he absolutely smashed it. Rings delivered right on cue.

After they tied the knot, we did a confetti tunnel at the top of the hill, which looked brilliant with the sea stretching out behind them. Guests either wandered back down to the clubhouse or grabbed lifts on the golf buggies, ready for drinks and celebrations to get going. During the reception, singer Georgia Lewis kept everyone entertained with some beautiful live music, which added a really relaxed feel to the afternoon.

One thing that really stood out during the day was just how many nurses there were. Alice is a nurse herself, and at one point, there must have been about twenty of them all springing into action when one of the older guests fainted in the heat. Within seconds, she was in the recovery position, cooled down and given water. Honestly, it was like watching a perfectly coordinated response team. Not long after, she was back on her feet and was later spotted enjoying a Pimm’s as if nothing had happened.

After some group photos, everyone made the most of the sunshine with lawn games on the grass. I spent a bit of time wandering between groups, capturing people laughing and getting competitive. There were a couple of ladies in particular who were taking things very seriously, which made for some brilliant, funny photos.
Soon enough, it was time for everyone to sit down for food and speeches. Matt’s speech had one of the best surprises of the day, the long-awaited gender reveal for their baby. He casually put on a pair of bright pink sunglasses, and the reaction from the room was instant. Big cheers, lots of laughter and a few happy tears.

Later on, once the sun started to dip and the course had closed, we grabbed a golf buggy again and headed back up the hill to a spot even higher than the ceremony this time. From up there, you get views over Falmouth Bay on one side and Maenporth Beach on the other. As the light softened into that golden twilight glow, we captured some really special portraits. I shot a mix of digital, 35mm and medium format film up there, and it was well worth the climb.

Then it was back down to the party. The dance floor filled quickly, and there was lots for me to capture. The DJ and photobooth were run by Perfect Party Cornwall, who are always great to work with, and Smores & More Cornwall kept everyone fuelled with sweet treats through the night. A quick mention has to go to the wedding cake, too, which was made by one of the guests, Caroline Dunston. She doesn’t run a business, but honestly, you’d never know; it looked amazing, covered in detailed seashell decorations that tied in perfectly with the beach theme.

To round off the night, we headed outside for a sparkler tunnel in front of the venue. Always a brilliant way to end the day, with loads of cheering, sparklers lighting up the dark, and a perfect send-off for Alice and Matt after such a fun, sun-soaked celebration.
