THE ALVERTON IN TRURO

Bex and Adam’s wedding was held on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, at The Alverton Hotel in Truro. A stunning venue with some key features such as high beamed ceilings and old stone pillars, the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

In typical Cornish fashion, the weather was a mixed bag. However, it behaved itself for moments such as the group shots and daytime couple photos, where the sun made an appearance. We did purposely go out in a downpour at night for some special back-lit rain shots which were some of my favourite from the day. Here’s how their special day went…

The Morning

The day started with the bridal party getting ready with Bex in the bridal suite at the hotel. We hung her wedding dress by Elaine Rawlins Bridal Boutique in the window for some silhouette shots to show off all the intricate details. We also hung the bridesmaid’s dresses alongside, which were colour-coordinated. Balance of Beauty and LJP Bridal Hair and Makeup ensured everyone looked their best. Bex’s bridesmaids and mother all had a whale of a time getting ready, enjoying glasses of Prosecco while wearing colour-coordinated pajamas.

Meanwhile, Adam and his groomsmen prepared for the day ahead at their own home, on the outskirts of Truro. We captured the classic moments for the groom’s party getting ready, plus all the laughter and banter that filled the room. Once Bex was ready, she stood by the window for some photos that looked like a studio photoshoot, with all the natural light coming in. I was really pleased with how these came out. We captured the special moment when Bex’s mum first saw her in her wedding dress, and was totally overwhelmed, along with the ‘first look’ pics with her Dad on the stairs too.

The Ceremony

Held in the Great Hall at The Alverton, the ceremony had a warm and intimate atmosphere, enhanced by candlelight, that felt like we were all in a church. Adam and Bex exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends, and there were a few happy tears along the way.

After the ceremony, and whilst the weather was behaving, we did a confetti tunnel with all the guests outside the front entrance as well as the big group shots which came out really well.

The Reception

The wedding breakfast was served in the Great Hall, beautifully decorated with floral arrangements by Blew Flowers. The tables were elegantly set, and Swirls and Pearls created a wedding cake that looked as good as it tasted. I flew around and captured all these elements before the meal and speeches started.

The Speeches

The speeches were heartfelt and filled with laughter, especially brought on by the Best Men double act. Toasts were made, and as the evening progressed, I took the couple up to the great east window of the Alverton for some special, back lit evening photos.

The final elements of the day for me to capture, were the cutting of the cake, the first dance and the party that followed. A stand out element for me was that the DJ used an antique turntable with a vast vinyl collection, which was really cool. This included LP’s such as ‘Can’t Slow Down’ by Lionel Richie, and other classics such as Al Green’s ‘Greatest Hits’, Bill Withers’ ‘Greatest Hits’ and Musical Youth’s ‘The Youth of Today’. What a party, everyone was up throwing shapes on the dance floor and I enjoyed being creative with their movements and the blurred candlelight.

Thank you so much for having me shoot your special day Adam and Bex, it was a pleasure! Here’s to everyone involved!
