THE BARN AT PENGELLY
Rosanna and Jack’s big day was held at The Barn at Pengelly on Thursday, August 15th. We were blessed with such fantastic weather that they could hold their ceremony outdoors, which is the dream.
Jack and his groomsmen got ready for the day in the lakehouse, whilst Rosanna’s bridesmaids, bridesmen and Mother all got ready in the Pengelly cottages, and all had a great time together. I loved snapping these moments of laughter and excitement for the day ahead. Rosanna’s hair was done by Happy Dayz Hair and makeup by Suzi Winter. I love to capture this part of the day as well as all the smaller elements that make up the final look for the bride-to-be. But the stand-out piece was of course Rosanna’s wedding dress by Two For Joy Bridal – which I shot in the window of the cottage.
Prep work for the venue had been done the day before, so the barn was decked out with plenty of paraphernalia and featured three enormous long tables for all the guests to sit at. The florist – Cornwall Floral Design – had done such a wonderful job of adding stunning colour mixes to the barn’s backdrop, including lovely yellow sunflowers.
Whilst the wedding party got spruced up, guests arrived at the barn and enjoyed a spot of beanbag courtyard games – created by Jack himself. These also featured sunflowers – a theme throughout the day. Another standout element was The Big Day Newspaper that was created by Rosanna, featuring a rundown of the day’s plans, songs to be sung at the ceremony, as well as a beautiful shot from their pre-wedding shoot with me at Holywell Bay on the front cover.
The ceremony was held outside the barn at Pengelly in their courtyard and under a pretty metal pagoda. Their friend and Vicar tied the knot for them, and everyone joined in by singing Cornish songs – the lyrics of which were in Rosanna’s newspapers. After they were married, we set up in front of the barn’s steps for the confetti-throwing shots, which looked stunning with the blue skies overhead. By the time Rosanna and Jack had reached the bottom, they were covered in confetti. A big group shot was then taken, which really was a blaze of colour!
We made full use of Pengelly’s spacious grounds after the ceremony when I whisked the couple away to take some shots around the lakes at the bottom of the estate, around the lake house and up in the wildflower meadow behind the barn. At this point, the weather decided to break, so we all had to dash through the sheets of rain back to the barn.
Now it was time for their wedding breakfast, catered by Divine Dinning 21 and Kernowforno. The couple were formally announced into the room via a gigantic white curtain that separated the dance floor from the eating area.
The speeches were brilliant. The Father of the Bride, Jack, and the best men can all be proud of their efforts. The speeches ended with Jack and Rosanna both wearing pink cowboy hats, which was hilarious! All that was left to do was the cutting of the various cakes they had, which all looked delicious. One even had one of their pre-wedding shots printed on top of it.
The night flowed into a big party, with everyone up and dancing to Amp and Decks DJ, followed by a silent disco by Ssssilent Disco. Everyone’s glowing headphones made for such fantastic photos at slow shutter speeds, creating multicoloured light trails across the dance floor.
Thank you so much for having me shoot your special day Rosanna and Jack, it was a pleasure! Here’s to everyone involved!
