Laurie and Marks wedding

NANCARROW FARM, TRURO

This month, we’re taking it back to Saturday, 17th June 2023, when Laurie and Mark tied the knot at Nancarrow Farm, a beautiful, rustic venue near Truro. Lucky couples can get married in the corrugated barn there, featuring doors that can open front and back, plus the sides. It really is a beautiful spot.

Laurie’s wedding dress (as well as the Mother of the Bride’s dress) was designed by Sassi Holford and featured floral embroidery all over the bodice in stunning colours. I photographed the dress inside The Dairy, a charming building where the Bridal party all got ready in the morning, alongside other items, such as a pair of Vans trainers with the same embroidery as the wedding dress, to match. Being a fantastic ring bearer, Lauren and Mark’s dog also had a matching embroidered bow tie, that held the box of rings for the couple.

Laurie getting ready

The ladies’ hair was done by Ro Hair, and makeup was by Sonia Allen. A dream team as everyone looked stunning. Whilst they were all getting ready, I headed over to the barn to capture it empty. It had a real festival theme, decked out in flags, amazing chairs and walls covered with flowers from 3 Acre Blooms. The entrance doorway, acting as an arch, made a fantastic backdrop to the whole ceremony.

Mark and his groomsmen

Once the Groom and Groomsmen were dressed and ready, I took some shots of them lined up on the stairs outside the main farmhouse. Everyone was in high spirits, so there was a lovely buzz around the guys. As the main guests started to arrive, the lawn games from Cornwall Hire were set up on the grass spaces around the venue, with a giant Jenga, bean bag throwing and Coconut Shy which was super fun! Later on, I captured Laurie and Mark playing a giant “Pass the Pigs” game, which was hilarious to watch.

Laurie and Marks ceremony

Laurie walked down the aisle beside her Mother and Father, and it was thrilling for everyone to see Mark’s face as soon as he saw his wife-to-be. This is a moment I always like to time right, asking the groom to look at me until the bride is halfway down the aisle. It’s always such a beautiful moment to capture. Laurie’s friends got up to do a couple of readings, and looked great backlit by the barn doors and archway. Everyone was lit up lovely by the natural sunlight streaming through the doors and gaps in the barn. It really was a fantastic setting.

Laurie and Marks group shots

Running with the colour scheme of the day was the dried flower petals for the confetti, all lined up ready for the confetti tunnel. After the ceremony, the couple walked down the tunnel with all their friends and family, trying their hardest to throw the petals up in the air, but a few handfuls of petal bombs made it onto Mark’s face, which was funny to watch for all the wedding party. I always try and guide people to throw up and not throw directly at the couple’s faces, but it really is quite funny to see the reactions when the throwing goes wrong too.

Laurie and Marks wedding breakfast

We got some great group shots in front of the barn, from the Bridesmaids in matching dresses to the Groomsmen in their matching suits, as well as friends and family. And finally, one big giant group shot of all attending the day. The lawn games were in full swing too, and the sun was shining. It was now time to move into the dining area for the wedding breakfast. The tables in the dining area were all named after different Cornish beaches that the couple love to visit, such as Daymer Bay, Porthtowan and Gwithian. I also loved the massive board up on the wall showcasing Polaroids of friends and family outside the dining area.

Laurie and Marks couple photos

After the meal, the speeches commenced, with the Father of the Bride starting things off, followed by Mark, his Best Man and even Laurie herself. I love it when couples break tradition at weddings and the Bride gets to do a speech too! After the speeches and all the laughter and tears, it was time for some couple shots. We wandered over to the fields opposite the barn and played around with both digital and film photography in the long grass there which gave a dreamy aesthetic to the photos. We also walked to the upper field where Laurie had a go on a swing, and we shot outside the greenhouse there too where they actually do grow food for the farm.

Laurie and Marks evening party

It was now time to cut the cake, which was a beautiful three-tiered cheesecake from Three Little Figs UK (the couple are big cheese fans!) and onto the first dance. Laurie and Mark chose LeRoy and The Euphonics as their band for the evening, playing 60’s music, Ska, and present-day tunes, which got absolutely everyone up and dancing. The energy in the room was incredible! Finally, the last thing for me to do was to capture the happy couple in a sparkler tunnel, which is always good fun. Everyone feels like a kid again at Firework night, so the laughter was loud and the photos came out great!
