The Barns at Hunsbury Hill Wedding

Charly and Dan

I photographed Charly and Dan’s wedding slap bang in the middle of Northampton. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, The Barns at Hunsbury Hill is an interesting location. It’s in the middle of a housing estate! Everything looked the same as last time, the Manor House and it’s outbuildings remained as full of charm. The discreet and homely feel of this venue never fails to relax all that come here. Moreover, I’m a big fan of the food there and couldn’t wait for the buffet!

Northamptonshire Vistas

The Barns at Hunsbury Hill are set perfectly atop (funnily enough) a hill overlooking Northampton. I would say any couple thinking of getting married here should consider the added bonus of the Northamptonshire Vistas. As a result, I made sure the evening light over the town was a feature of Charly and Dan’s portraits.

Prior to the wedding, I had known that Charly and Dan are both hair stylists. However, I wasn’t ready for Charly’s house to be full of 20 more of them during bridal prep! I’m used to the mayhem of bridesmaids and mothers of the bride falling over each other whilst getting ready. But when everyone is doing everyone else’s hair and then redoing it, things get even crazier! Consequently, I couldn’t move for straighteners. Or without treading on hairclips! Actually, I’m kidding, prep was as fun as always! The girls had a blast. But it was time to see what Dan was up to.

As it turns out, when I got to the venue Dan was braced and ready to go. Yes underneath his jacket and waistcoat, inkeeping with his 80s style he was actually wearing a pair of braces. In addition, with a nod back to his skateboarding days he also had on a pair of Nikes.

Best Man’s slide show

One feature of this wedding that had me fighting back the laughs was the Best Man’s slide show. It began in a tame vein. Dan on his skatebaord. Dan mountain biking on forest trails. But before long we were in drunken trouserless territory. To his credit, Dan took everything with a good amount of humility. Moreover, there seemed to be nothing that Charly didn’t know about!

A mention also has to be made of the wedding videographers: AKA Dan’s Dad and Brother. As it turns out, Dan’s Dad is a keen filmmaker and had been recording Dan’s best moments for his whole life. His wedding day was no exception. Everywhere I turned the kilt-clad film crew seemed to be documenting proceedings. I am waiting with bated breath for the finished edit to hit YouTube…

My favourite photos from the day are any with Dan and Charly stood next to each other. Dan is about six foot eight. Charly comes up to his chest. In heels!

Thank you to the happy couple and their families for being amazing, all the staff at The Barns at Hunsbury Hill and also Craftability Events for keeping the kids entertained!
