Chycara Wedding
Natasha and James
I photographed Natasha and James’ wedding at Chycara tucked away in rural Cornwall. Chycara is a charming and discreet venue nestling deep in the Cornish countryside. The first time I visited to capture images, I was amazed at the tranquil green surroundings. Even the birds chirp quietly! Furthermore, Chycara’s homely feel never fails to relax all that come here. Indeed, the bespoke alpine style lodges provide all that guests require.
Stormy
Natasha and James’ wedding service took place at Mount Hawke Church close to Cornwall’s North Coast. The church and it’s vicar are highly agreeable to wedding photographers. The bright, well lit church has big windows allowing lots of natural light. In addition, there are also the house lights giving extra illumination. Then there’s the Vicar herself*, who I found to be a lovely human! Whilst waiting for Natasha to arrive, we shared and few jokes and helped put James at his ease. All in all, I hope to return to photograph many a wedding here!
Finally, once the service and confetti throwing was over, the happy couple were whisked off to Porthtowan cliffs! The wind in Cornwall can be factor at some weddings, especially on the North Coast. Natasha and James’ wedding just happened to take place on fairly stormy day. The wind swirled around and played havoc with Natasha’s dress. Consequently, the ensuing photo session was spent feverishly shooting portraits before the impending rain!
Safely warm and dry in their Bentley, Natasha and James roared off across Cornwall to the reception at Chycara. Likewise, my second shooter and I gave chase, determined to be on hand to document the happy couple’s grand entry. We needn’t have worried though. We were almost the first people to arrive!
‘Marryoke’
During the entirety of Natasha and James’ Chycara wedding day, the crew from I Do Film Weddings were in the process of filming a wedding video. What was special about this one was that it included ‘Marryoke’. As the name suggests, there is an element of singing along to music. Indeed, the happy couple choose one particular wedding song. At various points throughout the day, the couple and guests are filmed singing various lines from said piece of music. This is all then edited together to form a unique video. As you can imagine, the amount of effort put into the singing can increase alongside the levels of Champagne and Prosecco.
I have seen a few Marryoke’s in production, but Natasha and James’ Chycara wedding has to take the biscuit. For what some of the guests lacked in singing melody, they made up for with volume. In fact, that reminds me I need to see the doctor about my eardrums…
Thank you to Natasha and James for all the laughs, to Rob and the team at Chycara and to the extended families for the energetic singing!
